4th and 5th Grade League

League Director: Josh Losey - jlosey@wwgb.org

Register for 4th and 5th Grade Girls Winter League

League Rules:

1      Quarters are 7 minutes in duration

2      Substitutions will be made at the 3:30 minute mark of each quarter (clock will stop). All girls are to play a minimum of 50% of the game. NO Girl is to play more than 75% of the game in the event of less that 10 players on a team.

3      Teams up by 10 or more points can NOT play back court defense on a missed shot.

4      Each team must provide an individual to run the clock and keep the scorebook

5      Substitution stoppages at 3:30 mark are NOT timeouts

6      Teams get 2 time outs per half – no carry over

7      Coaches are NOT to line up players at substitution stoppage.

8      No double team above the foul line

9      Half time is 5 minutes

10   Time outs are 1 minute

  1. Players get 5 fouls per game
  2. Teams shoot 1 and 1 on the 7th team foul. Player Control (Offensive) fouls count as team fouls but do not cause a shooting situation in the 1 and 1
  3. Teams must play man to man defense. NO ZONE is allowed. Teams will be warned on the 1st violation and a technical foul will be assessed thereafter.  Help-side defense is fine.
  4. There is no backcourt defense after a made basket or dead ball inbounds play.
  5. Backcourt defense is allowed after a missed shot and the shooting team is then on the defensive.  (We do not want the girls thinking they must run away from the ball on a defensive situation). We also do not want the girls turtling with the ball because then they will not learn how to handle defensive pressure.
  6. Girls are allowed to step over the foul line when taking foul shots but can not get their own rebound until it touches another player.
  7. General basketball rules are followed with traveling, 3 seconds in the lane etc. (Officials will be lenient in the beginning but will enforce the rules tighter as season progresses. Kids need to learn the proper way of playing basketball.)

As an organization we do NOT want to see blow out scores at this level. Coaches need to use common sense in games of this nature. Officials will be looking for instances of scores being run up and will report them to the Girls Board of Directors.
